CURRENT STATUS

    SPECIAL INTERESTS
    • Actively building his client list, he's looking for fiction, namely, novels with a literary bent in these general categories (in no order of preference): suspense; thriller; horror; dystopian; offbeat and quirky; humorous; illustrated children's; and the catchall, that ineffable one called “literary”. Also would love to see gripping narrative/true story nonfiction like Capuzzo's 'Close to Shore' or Eggers' 'Zeitoun'.
    • You get the idea: whip-smart, fresh, commercial genre fiction, literary fiction, genre-bending or genre-blending. Full-voiced, dark, captivating, laugh-out-loud, unapologetic, transgressive. He wants kinetic stories that tickle the Wernicke’s area.
    • If you’re Chuck Palahniuk, if you’re Stephen King (or, hell, if you’re Joe Hill), if you’re Joyce Carol Oates, if you’re Stewart O’Nan, if you’re Daniel Woodrell, if you’re David Sedaris or Mamet, if you’re Bret Ellis, if you're Douglas Coupland, if you’re later-day William Gibson, if you’re Annie Proulx, if you’re Ken Kesey, you're what he's looking for.
    • He's looking for compelling, well-plotted stories first, gosh-wow blank verse prose second.
    • That said, he would especially like to see more great stories written for men and boys. The fiction market is heavily dominated by books geared for women--because numbers don't lie. Women buy and read more fiction. But he'd like to champion Dude-Lit a bit more. Where's the fresh, new, robust YA fiction for boys? Have you even seen a YA book not about a girl in the last several years (other than Harry)? Where's the "important" accessible literary novel guys talk up to other guys because it's just that good? Let's see a Renaissance of man books, fellas. He's here for you.
    DOES NOT REPRESENT
    • Romance, erotica, sci-fi, fantasy, middle grade, religious, nonfiction other than narrative/true story (e.g., 'Close to Shore' , 'Zeitoun')

Set in New York City and New Jersey on the cusp of the financial crisis, GHOSTS OF BERGEN COUNTY tells the story of Gil Ferko, a private-equity lieutenant with a cynical eye and an abundance of insecurity, and his wife, Mary Beth, a recluse since the hit-and-run accident that killed their infant daughter. Ferko seeks escape, and he thinks he has found it in Jen Yoder, an old classmate who wouldn’t have even looked at him in high school. But Jen has problems of her own, and she lends some to Ferko when she introduces him to drugs that endanger his life and jeopardize his career. Meanwhile, Mary Beth has found her own escape: first in prescription drugs that numb her senses, then in the companionship of a mysterious girl who heightens them. A ghost? Mary Beth believes so. Ferko sees her, too, and she may be the connection that allows the couple to confront their past and reclaim their future. -- To Meg Storey at TIN HOUSE BOOKS for publication Spring 2016
